Carl Barks used very few real animals in his comics, and the few that did appear almost always behaved just as animals usually do. But the Junior Woodchucks Troop One's official bloodhound known as General Snozzie, who you would expect to act simply like a smart dog, transcends the most intelligent of animal behaviour. He is a phenomenal tracking dog who not only is able to carry out every conceivable task, but also has the ability to think for himself.
Although Snozzie as a character had the potential to appear in many stories, in which Barks could have developed his supernatural abilities to even higher extremes, the hound was just used in 7 of the comic books stories. Here they are...

 

 

 

WDCS213 - 1958

Synopsis
Donald is doing whatever he can in order to avoid being forced to take part in Daisy's yearly spring cleaning. Snozzie is called in to track Donald down...

Abilities/Merits
He has two trainloads of trophies won in tracking competitions.
He can breathe and track under water through a special nose filter.
He can track up in the air when using a special balloon jacket.
He can track a man in rubber shoes through a fish market.
He does not need his eyesight; he can track by Braille.
He can cross frozen seas on drifting ice floes.
He can track whirling dervishes through the center of a cyclone.
He can climb ladders, greased poles, and swaying cables.

 

WDCS227 - 1959

Synopsis
The JWs are in need of a person who can hide in the woods and pretend to be lost. Donald comes forward. They soon realize that Donald is quite good at hiding and they reluctantly have to call in Snozzie.

He can track a person by way of scent up in the air.

 

WDCS253 - 1961

Synopsis
Donald has a job as an expert dogcatcher while the JWs are using Snozzie for a test in which he will not wear a collar. Donald discovers the 'stray' dog and tries to catch him, but he is at least as sly as Donald himself.

He is of very top-grade intelligence.
He is wary of traps and planted bones.
He is a Ph.D., a B.Sc., and an Ed.D.
He is a D.O.G. (Doctor of Odd-ball Gimmickry)
He can resist the come-hither essence of Burgerbalm.
He outsmarts a roll-up sidewalk.
He has too much education.
He can open a locked gate.
He wins the medal of Extreme Gumption.

 

WDCS261 - 1962

Synopsis
Donald tries to snap the best wild animal photograph for a competition but he is constantly interrupted by Snozzie who is being tested in his abilities to track wild animals. Donald decides to make the hound lose.

Abilities/Merits
He can sound a deer call, a bear call, and a lion call.
He is demoted to the rank of S.L.O.B. (Simple, Lowdown, Ordinary Boobhound)
He tracks streams, rocks, and bushes.
He receives full five-star Generalship.
He is given the titles of S.S.S.S. (Supremely Sagacious Spoor Sniffer) and S.O.S.S. (Saver Of Stranded Souls).
He wins the Junior Woodchuck's Supreme Medal of Overwhelming Tracking Merit.

 

WDCS276 - 1963

Synopsis
Donald is a lifeguard but Snozzie manages to rescue more pretty girls. Donald decides to get even by making Snozzie fail the sentry post test.

Abilities/Merits
He rescues drowning people.
He receives ten merit badges and the title of K.I.N.G. (Knightly, Intrepid, Natatorial Guardian).
He is working for points to B.T.H.H.M. (Bucket To Hold His Medals).
He withstands the tempting smell of sautéed nightingales' fetlock in dumpling gravy.
He receives the title of G.P.O.O.T.K.H. (Great Peerless Overseer Of The Kitchen Help).

 

WDCS294 - 1965

Synopsis
Donald participates in Duckburg's annual Ice Skating Fishing Race to win a prize that he will then donate to the JWs. After a troublesome time with Gladstone he gets help unexpectedly from Snozzie.

He can open a closed gate.

 

U$60 The Phantom of Notre Duck - 1965

Synopsis
The Money Bin can only be opened by the notes of a certain melody played on a flute. But the elusive Phantom of Duckburg's cathedral gets hold of it. Snozzie is called in to track down the Phantom.

Abilities/Merits
He is the most peerless of trackers.
He can track an India rubber man across a bargeload of red herrings.
He can follow the spoor of an ant through a herd of angry skunks.
