Originally, Carl Barks invented Gyro Gearloose's little metal stick man called Little Helper as nothing more than a means to 'fill' and lighten up the panels when Gyro was routinely shown inventing new gadgets. But as time went by Barks entrusted Little Helper with both amusing and necessary parts of the plots. This page will show you a few of the stories in which Little Helper helped save Gyro's day...

 

 

 


FC1047 The Gab-Muffer

Synopsis:
Donald asks Gyro to make a silencer to avoid the stress of the nephews' loud racket. The invention is working extremely well...

Help:
...until it malfunctions and overheats. Now no one can get to it and switch it off. But Little Helper simply sprinkles it with water causing it to short-circuit.


FC1047 The Lost Rabbit Foot

Synopsis:
Gyro is visited by Gladstone who has lost his lucky rabbit's foot in the harbour. Can Gyro retrieve it?

Help:
He cannot. Little Helper manages to fish up the good luck charm, while Gyro is stuck beneath the waves. The stickman now also has to rescue Gyro.


FC1095 The Bear Tamer

Synopsis:
Gyro is rounded up by Gladstone who wants him to invent a bear tamer so he can be the new King of Luck at his club...

Help:
A ferocious bear is not exactly subdued by Gyro's invention, so Little Helper shows proof of his diversity by inventing a powerful repellent himself.


U$21 'Crow Chaser'

Synopsis:
Gyro is tired of the annoying crows in his garden and he invents a scarecrow to chase them away. But it does not restrain sly Old Blackie...

Help:
Gyro does not succeed but Little Helper arms himself and builds a chariot flown by two pigeons to scare off the crows.


U$22 'The Bird-Thought Machine'

Synopsis:
Gyro invents a machine that can read thoughts and he wants to use it on a bird. But he has to catch it first...

Help:
When Gyro fails Little Helper steps in and uses the oldest trick in the book; he sprinkles salt on the bird's tail to catch it.


U$23 'The Swimming Rookie'

Synopsis:
Gyro is ashamed that he has never learned to swim so he tries to invent himself out of the problem in order not to be forced to use his degrading water wings...

Help:
Little Helper has a busy day rescuing Gyro from drowning in the pool several times.


U$25 'The Wishing Well'

Synopsis:
Gyro invents a wishing well and he tries it out by wishing himself to a far-off tropical land. Now, how is he supposed to return from the place?

Help:
The help is at hand in the shape of the little stickman who wishes Gyro back because he misses him.


U$28 The Inventors' Contest

Synopsis:
Gyro invents a special mousetrap for an inventors' contest. It is so effectively done that it even catches a stuffed mouse!

Help:
Well, that is the common belief among all the spectators! In reality Little Helper, unseen by everybody, manages to push the dummy into Gyro's mousetrap!


U$29 Oodles of Oomph

Synopsis:
Gyro enters a boat race and he invents his own boat which should be both better and faster than the other contestants' boats.

Help:
Little Helper also builds his own tiny boat which is uses to push Gyro's boat over the finishing line when he has engine trouble.

U$30 War Paint

Synopsis:
Gyro is hired by a film company to invent a war paint for their Native American Indians. It is supposed to make them wild. And it does!

Help:
The only way to calm the Indians down is to wash the paint off, but no one can approach them except Little Helper; he simply sprinkles the Indians with water from his water pistol.


U$32 That Small Feeling

Synopsis:
Gyro is visited by an evil witch doctor who can shrink people to a very small size. He suddenly has a king-size problem...

Help:
After Gyro has been shrunk the metal man courageously jumps in the dangerous fluid which does him no harm. Then the witch doctor touches him and the evil man is shrunk down to a more easy-handled size.


U$35 Fast Away Castaway

Synopsis:
Gyro invents a survival kit for castaways. He maroons himself on a desolate island in order to try it out on himself.

Help:
After having eaten a hearty meal Gyro falls asleep while his food machine produces tons of ice cream. Little Helper manages to wake Gyro up before he perishes from the cold temperatures.


U$36 Duckburg's Day of Peril

Synopsis:
Gyro sees that a giant robot from a film company is running amuck. Will he on his own be able to save the town from the apparently unstoppable, marauding berserker?

Help:
Barks uses the biblical story of small David and big Goliath; the metal man crushes the robot with a sling. This is the only story where he is shown full appreciation for his merits.


U$41 Snow Duster

Synopsis:
Gyro is hired to clear the snow from Duckburg Stadium for the football match. He fails but help is near after all...

Help:
Yes! Little Helper talks to his small feathered friends, the snowbirds, and they are willing to distribute Gyro's snow dissolver crystals all over the playing field. Soon the problem is solved...

U$46 A Helper's Helping Hand

Synopsis:
Gyro is using his combined rocket belt and portable sprayer to paint the new bridge. But a hatching seagull is not at all impressed by the ingenious and busy inventor and stays put...

Help:
Little Helper uses one of his hidden talents and paints a scary face on the knob where the gull is usually sitting. Now it finally flies off.


U$47 Man Versus Machine

Synopsis:
Gyro has grown tired of modern machines and he decides to live a simple life in the desert...

Help:
Soon the city man Gyro is brought down by the unforgiving desert and he risks dying of thirst. Little Helper starts off on a perilous and battery draining journey to get help.
