VICTOR ARRIAGADA RIOS

The Chilean born Rios - who is far better known by his pseudonym Vicar - is the versatile all-round artist who has been inspired by Barks in many different ways.

With D6856 Go Slowly, Sands of Time from 1984 Vicar was commissioned to draw the comic book version of Barks' story from Uncle $crooge McDuck, His Life & Times (1981) by the same name. Barks wrote the script already in 1968, and in 1980 he painted 12 pastels to accompany the story.

In another case Vicar was even trusted with one of Barks' unpublished scripts called Hang Gliders be Hanged. It was published as D6886 in 1984. Vicar also seized the opportunity of paying homage to an older Barks story...

D4813 Tomato Time 1979 follows the plot from WDCS146 'Omelet' in which a small town is destroyed by an avalanche of eggs. Vicar changed the story so that tomatoes did the damage instead.

In D2546 The Lion Tamer from 1978 Vicar reused the lion from WDCS203 'Delivery Boys'.
