One
of the least likely creatures one may encounter in a Disney comic
book is a monster. For obvious reasons. Monsters are usually
defined as scary and unlikable characters and as such they will
have no immediate appeal to children. But of course this did not
prevent Barks from portraying a variety of them in his unique
manner. Barks was used to treading new ground in his comics, and
he managed to incorporate numerous monsters in his stories. Of
the more benign kind.
It is interesting to see that Carl Barks' monsters always have a
disarming look although they most often act threatening. This was
partly done by simply making them big. Nevertheless, Barks'
special talent for storytelling makes his monsters a natural part
of the stories. This is a collection of different types of Barks'
many monsters.
