HALF-FINISHED
At his death Barks left a number of both Duck and Non-duck paintings in different stages of completion, which means that they were never finished for sale. Here are some of them.
Money Lake - 1980s Barks finished a number of paintings with the same main motif. They were all based on the front cover for FC0386 Only a Poor Old Man. See the rough sketch idea under DUCKS. |
Prosperity posed for Posterity - 1980s This half-finished painting was either painted before Barks finished 126/1983 Till Death Do Us Part as a preliminary or after as a 'sequel'. See two rough sketch ideas under DUCKS. |

First Girl He's Ever Seen - 1980s In the early 1980s Barks finished a few paintings on Masonite with the old Wild West saloons as the main theme. 01-82 Well-armed Stranger and 02-82 Worth a Whole Month's Wages are fairly well-known. In this one Barks stopped before finishing the details of which the lady's dress is the most apparent. |
#8-96 Queen of Sheba The motif is the famous African queen's visit to the Judaic King Solomon of Jerusalem, and it was mistakenly published - and numbered - in the book Animal Quackers from 1996. Barks tried to have the painting removed from the book but did not succeed. He did this because the painting was not finished. If you look closely you can see the following items that still need attention: the queen's headgear, the gemstones, and some of the servants. |
