During his time as an employee at the Disney Studios from 1935 to 1942 Carl Barks would occasionally contribute ideas and gags for other departments. It was a common practice back then - encouraged by Walt Disney himself - that the employees were free to provide different sorts of relevant ideas for their colleagues in other offices. Barks did so several times, but exactly which ideas and gags he provided - and how many of them were actually used - will forever remain unknown. Some of the unused ones from that time have surfaced, though, (see more HERE), and most fans remember how Walt Disney personally gave Barks a week's salary for an idea used in the cartoon Modern Inventions.
In 1938 Barks earned some extra money for ideas to the ongoing, daily Donald Duck newspaper strip, which was managed by writer Bob Karp (who later kickstarted Barks' comic book career by letting him and Jack Hannah draw a story from his Pirate Gold film script (see more
HERE)) and artist Al Taliaferro (see more HERE). Barks came up with 12 accepted gag situations, for which he was paid between 2.44 and 9.80 dollars each, and they are presented below...
