All of the primary characters in Carl Barks' funny animal comic book stories have had their ups and downs through the years. When they failed, they always had a price to pay in the end whether it be loss of prestige, credibility, reputation, or money. This page gives a few examples of some of Scrooge McDuck's most regrettable moments.

U$26 The Prize of Pizarro

U$47 The Thrifty Spendthrift

Things get totally out of hand, when Scrooge is hypnotized to buy numerous expensive gifts - to a dog that he does not even know! Do you think he is amused when he is finally out of the spell...?

U$14 A Square Inch of Land

Scrooge wins one square inch of land in oil rich Texas!!! In order to explore its potential he buys up millions of other adjacent lots in the hope of finding oil. But the - still - tiny piece of land contains nothing of value.

U$16 Back to Long Ago!

Scrooge has been on many treasure hunts, but not all of them have been successful in the end. In this one Scrooge and Donald seek old Conquistador gold, but they never find any; they only wind up with a treasure chest filled with rotting potatoes...

WDCS268 Christmas Cheers

U$07 'Cibola'

Scrooge just tags along when Donald and the nephews take to the desert in order to collect arrowheads. They wind up finding nothing less than 7 cities of gold! However, in the end they just leave the great wealth because of loss of memory.

WDCS134 'The Anti-Beagle Cannon'

Scrooge's multiple run-ins with the Beagle Boys have always cost large sums of money and numerous hours of aggravation, but in the end Scrooge won the bouts. Except in the first two 10-pagers (this one and WDCS135 'Frozen Assets'), in which the Boys managed to run off with buckets of money thanks to Scrooge's dubious actions.

DBP 'The Impenetrable Money Bin'

Gyro has coated Scrooge's Money Bin in Forbidium, the toughest substance on Earth. Now, in order to open the Bin they have to scour the asteroids for an even harder metal that can cut the Forbidium. They successfully return with a large chunk of such a substance but it slips from the space ship and smashes the Bin. Its contents are spread all over Duckburg...

U$32 That's No Fable!
