UNIDENTIFIED CHURCHES

Barks sketched this church twice in 1966.

Barks painted the church with oil on illustration board in 1966. Size 180x130mm (7x5").

Barks painted these churches during the 1960s. The leftmost painting was made with acrylic on illustration board and measures 170x120mm (6.5x4.5"), while the rightmost was made with oil on Masonite and measures 360x270mm (14x11").

It is highly plausible that Barks made these paintings from his imagination; the leftmost incorporates a symbolic gesture, the middle one has a bird's eye view (and is somewhat remindful of a famous 1931 painting by Grant Wood titled The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere), and the rightmost seems more European.
