THE HAIRY STORIES

Although it is seldom thought of as a hair-raisingly exciting subject for the comic books, Barks in fact managed to write a handful of stories about hair styles and hairdos. This brief presentation is in chronological order.

In WDCS230 Black Wednesday from 1959 Scrooge once sold hair tonic to the Indians in the North. Since then Duckburg has experienced bad luck on a certain day of the year, and the ducks travel north to have the spell lifted. They bring a new tonic that can grow hair on hard-shelled turtles and Indians. Lots of hair...

In WDCS272 Spare That Hair from 1963 Donald is a barber. Not just an ordinary barber but the best in the business with new and inventive ideas. He even manages to shave a gorilla...

In U$52 The Great Wig Mystery from 1964 Barks takes a satirical view at one of that time's big fads - the wearing of wigs. Big wigs! Especially the female Duckburgians are following the trend closely and the wigs cannot possibly be big enough...

In WDCS308 The Beauty Business from 1966 Donald is Duckburg's best beautician. He even makes the town's ugliest woman stunningly beautiful...

In WDCS312 The Not-So-Ancient-Mariner from 1966 Donald and Daisy are on a cruise. Remarkably Barks manages to show Daisy in no less than 5 completely different costumes - and hairdos - as the story unfolds!

EXTRA

In U$62 Queen of the Wild Dog Pack from 1966 a wild 'nature girl' is captured and placed under human care. Isn't it fantastic how the simple gift of a comb and a mirror can calm a girl...?
