Although Carl Barks undoubtedly felt most comfortable in his home, he did in fact visit several of the states in his native country. And most of the ones he did not visit himself, he let his primary characters from the duck universe visit. This page takes you on a full alphabetical tour to all the 51* states, where you are presented to a mixture of photos, story panels, and paintings that all have some connection with the individual states.

Two comments are necessary in order for you to fully acknowledge the contents of the graphics and narratives below: A. You are only presented to one or two pieces of information from each state, although there are frequently more. For instance, when you look at Arizona you will not see the 7 cities of gold from U$07 'Cibola' as well as the Grand Canyon from WDCS246 Lost Frontier. - B. For some of the states it has been almost impossible to find even one ironclad piece of information that positively links Barks or his work to a specific state. In those (few) cases the website has taken the liberty of making educated guesses based on Barks' and the ducks' often indistinct utterings.

Still, you will hopefully enjoy this unpretentious little tour through the USA, state by state, and foremost consider it an amusing pastime...

* CALISOTA

Barks invented the fictitious location Calisota as a state in the USA. The name is a contraction of the real states of California and Minnesota in which Barks lived for a number of years. In one story Barks revealed that he considered Calisota as a real part of his country.
It happened in WDCS245 Sitting High, where Donald Duck borrows a camel for a ride, but he later comes back alone and snarls: It ran two miles up the barest canyon in forty 'leven states. Aha! Forty 'leven! So 40 plus 11 = 51!

Those of us who have a tendency to call Calisota the USA's 51st state should remember that after its 'birth' came Alaska and Hawaii in 1959, wherefore it is more correct to perceive Calisota as the 49th state...
