THE NEPHEWS

  WDCS095 - 1948

Synopsis:
Donald and Gladstone are bragging about their imaginary wealth but when Daisy asks for a small contribution for her club they have a problem...

Comments:
Donald succumbs to trying to steal money from the nephews but the result is nothing short of catastrophic because they are guarding it vigorously; the boys nearly electrocute their uncle in the process!

Other examples:
The nephews were bratty from time to time but especially in the earlier stories Barks did not hold back (see more examples
HERE).

SCROOGE McDUCK

  WDCS180 - 1955

Synopsis:
Donald is an insurance salesman and he has just sold an accident policy to Scrooge. For one billion dollars! Perhaps it was not as clever as it seemed...

Comments:
Scrooge actions are highly thoughtless as - blinded by the prospect of earning a billion dollars from the insurance if he gets hurt - he embarks on a number of stunts that easily could get himself killed.

Other examples:
In most stories Scrooge acts as the miser of misers, but sometimes he goes totally overboard in the opposite direction - and for no solid reasons. A few examples: In U$14 he spends large sums of money to 'develop' one square inch of land he has won, in U$53 he spends colossal sums of money in order to provide a postal service, and in WDCS138 he spends endless sums of money in order to build sky-high statues all over Duckburg...

GLADSTONE GANDER

  WDCS225 - 1959

Synopsis:
Donald is a volunteer fireman and he is often called out when he is courting Daisy at her house. Then Gladstone moves in...

Comments:
In practically all the stories with Gladstone he shows that he is extremely self-centered. In this one he clearly demonstrates that it is more important to him to save his records from a fire than to save Daisy!

Other examples:
In these two stories he leaves his relatives in dire straits; in FC0256 he sails away from Donald and the nephews who are stranded on an iceberg in the Arctic Sea, and in WDCS117 he does not rescue Daisy from a sudden flood at a picnic. Furthermore, he almost grinds Donald into the ground in WDCS147 where he forces his poor cousin to pay for a luxury stay in Florida.

GYRO GEARLOOSE

  U$16 - 1957

Synopsis:
Gyro tries to invent a machine that can predict the future. And it can! One just has to ask the right questions!

Comments:
By blindly trusting the machine without any reflection whatsoever Gyro almost manages to get himself - and Little Helper for that matter - killed in a car crash.

Other examples:
The gentle, absentminded Gyro has caused mayhem on different levels in several stories - mostly without even realizing it. Two more examples involving cars: In U$13 he feeds Grandma Duck's electric car with powers from lightning, and she is almost killed in the following test drive, and in U$14 Gyro invents a special high-speed gasoline that proves so powerful that it is also highly dangerous to the driver who uses it.

MAGICA DE SPELL

  U$40 - 1963

Synopsis:
Magica lures Scrooge to her hide-out in order to steal the Number One Dime but luckily Donald and the nephews are standing by...

Comments:
The evil witch stoops to transforming Donald and the nephews to different animals in order to get nothing but a small piece of metal. The strange blackmailerish trick works on Scrooge; he is ready to give up anything to bring his kin back to normal. Responsibility versus irresponsibility...

Other examples:
Magica usually demonstrates that she is totally indifferent to others as long as she can reach her own goal. In U$43 she even calls upon the forces of nature in a big way; meteors, comets, and more, are raining down on the Money Bin putting all of Duckburg in mortal danger. She is just as deadly as the Beagle Boys on their 'better' days...
