SEWER SYSTEMS

MMA

U$27

Not the most appealing topic but a necessary one. Still, Barks did not make any stories with this subject in greater detail (wonder why?), so these are the only ones that, at least, touches the topic: Gyro has built an ingenious one-man touring rocket, but he forgets to think of the environment; as a result the blast from the rocket fills the entire Duckburg with nasty smoke via the sewer system (MMA August Accident). The other story mainly takes place on an old airfield, where the ducks visit the storm drains underground (U$27 The Money Champ).

LANDMARKS

A great city such as Duckburg is bound to have a string of tourist sights and interesting landmarks. And in fact that there is a plethora of statues and special buildings 'hidden' in the stories, but most of them are only mentioned (or drawn in the background) in single stories making it impossible to judge if they are still around. For example, it is more than plausible that the hordes of giant statues of the city's founder, Cornelius Coot, erected in one story, were removed or torn down, because we have not seen a single of these giant constructions since then (WDCS138 'Statues Galore'). However, a more modest rendering of the founder is still present (WDCS201 'The Powerful Dye').
As for buildings some may well be still standing. Examples: The leaning Limpspire State Building (DD60 The Titanic Ants), the tall TV Tower (DD68 The Master Glasser), and the World Fair's Space Needle (WDCS263 The Candy Kid). Only one building that we know of is positively still standing (although it frequently changes appearance!!!) namely Scrooge's Money Bin (U$15 The Second-richest Duck)...

POSTAL SERVICE

U$40

WDCS090

Undoubtedly, Duckburg has a functioning postal service engaged with the distribution of letters and telegrams. In more stories Donald has been a mailman, but we never got to see the post office. This was the case with two other characters who also worked briefly in the service; Scrooge (U$53 Interplanetary Postman) and Gyro (U$40 Posthasty Postman). As for telegraph service the Ducks once worked with the delivery of telegrams (WDCS090 'The Telegram Boys').

BRIDGES

WDCS229

WDCS038

Manmade bridges are natural extensions of roads and streets, and Duckburg seems to have a lot of them in all possible sizes from the smallest (WDCS229 Good Deeds) to the largest (WDCS038 Good Neighbors). Barks drew them frequently and sometimes they were even reminiscent of each other! Examples can be found in WDCS052 'Tricky Trade Rats' + WDCS054 'Skate Race Cheater' and WDCS144 'Billion Dollar Spree' + U$53 Interplanetary Postman.

GAS STATIONS

FC0408

FC1184

Despite the fact that Duckburg is teeming with all sorts of motor cars we rarely see gas stations. In fact, these are the only two occurrences, and they were both 1-pagers: FC0408 'Shiny Windows' and FC1184 The Old Timer.
